The Color of Courage
Based on the true story of the landmark civil rights case, Sipes vs. McGhee, The Color of Courage chronicles the strong but unlikely friendship that bonds a white woman, Anna Sipes (Linda Hamilton), with a black woman, Minnie McGhee (Lynn Whitfield).
In 1944 Detroit, race riots break out, while World War II rages on. Benjamin Sipes (Bruce Greenwood) is worried that the nearby rioting will spread, but his wife Anna (Linda Hamilton) feels that the races have always gotten along in the area. Despite their differences Benjamin, a blue-collar worker, buys a home in a nicer neighborhood in Detroit.
Then janitor Mac McGhee (Roger Guenveur Smith), a very light-skinned black man, and his wife, Minnie (Lynn Whitfield) buy a house in the new neighborhood. Anna immediately befriends Minnie, but when Benjamin and the others in the neighborhood discover that the McGhees are black, they tell Mac he has to move.
